Earth Day

Earth Day at Las Flores: Growing More Than Just a Garden

Every April, we’re reminded of something we live every day at Las Flores Community Garden: caring for the earth starts right where we are.

Earth Day isn’t just about big global ideas — it’s about small, consistent actions. It’s about planting something instead of leaving soil bare. It’s about growing your own food, supporting pollinators, and sharing what you harvest with others.

At Las Flores, that’s not a once-a-year mindset. It’s what we do all year long.

What Earth Day Means to Our Garden

When people think about Earth Day, they often think about recycling, reducing waste, or conserving energy. All of that matters. But in a community garden, we get to go one step further — we get to actively give back to the earth.

Every time we:

  • Add compost back into the soil
  • Grow food without unnecessary chemicals
  • Plant flowers for bees and butterflies
  • Keep our plots active and thriving

…we’re improving the environment in a real, tangible way.

That’s Earth Day in action.

A Garden That Gives Back

One of the things that makes Las Flores special is how much of our work reaches beyond our gates.

Our Giving Garden continues to produce fresh food for the Westminster Free Clinic, helping support local families every week. What starts as a seed in our soil becomes something meaningful in someone else’s life.

That’s the kind of impact Earth Day is meant to inspire.

Small Actions, Big Impact

Earth Day can feel big — global, overwhelming, out of reach. But what we do here proves the opposite.

Small actions matter:

  • Planting something instead of leaving a bed empty
  • Watering thoughtfully
  • Supporting pollinators
  • Sharing your harvest
  • Helping a neighbor in the garden

These are simple things. But together, they create something powerful.

Final Thought

At Las Flores Community Garden, Earth Day isn’t just something we celebrate — it’s something we practice.

Every planted bed, every harvested vegetable, every shared moment in the garden is part of something bigger. It’s care for the earth, for our community, and for each other.

We hope to see you tomorrow — stop by, say hello, and celebrate with us.
