Lavandula (common name Lavender) is a flowering plant in the mint family. Lavender derives its name from the Latin ‘lavare’ meaning ‘to wash”. The Romans used lavender to scent their baths, clothes, and even hair. Lavender is native to the Mediterranean region and is believed to be one of the first herbs brought to America by the colonists.lavender-blossoms Lavender is an herb with many uses. It contains an oil that seems to have sedating effects and might relax certain muscles. Lavender is used to relieve headaches, calm nerves, and sooth insect bites. Eye pillows and sachets filled with lavender are natural sleep aids. Lavender can even be used when vacuuming carpets – one easy way to add some fragrance to your carpets is to sprinkle some dried lavender buds on the carpet before you vacuum.
